  • Lee C. discusses his childhood in Richmond, Virginia, his father's work in a fertilizer mill, and his schooling. Starting to work at 14 years old driving a grocery wagon, then in various mills and factories. Moving to Pennsylvania in 1923, following his brother, who owned a boarding house in Braddock. Getting a job in the finishing department of a mill, and continuing to work in different mill positions for 34 years. Race relations in the mills and the treatment of workers. Working in the mill during the Great Depression. Some elements of the Braddock community: sports, other mill workers, pollution.
