Description
Interviewee discusses childhood, her family's farm in Northampton, Virginia, and attending school there until the 8th grade. Working briefly as a cook for a white family in North Carolina, before moving to Homestead in 1923. Differences in race relations between the North and South. Staying in a boarding house and getting a job in a restaurant in Homestead after arriving. Working in Squirrel Hill for a time during the Great Depression, then working at the Standard Government Factory during World War II. Her experiences in each of these jobs, and differences in treatment between Black and white workers.
