The Frank Russell Hightower Photograph Collection dates from the 1940s through the 1990s with the bulk of his photography being completed between 1960 and 1980. Hightower had a very successful career as a wedding and studio portrait photographer, which is also documented in the collection. His work contains photographic prints, negatives, slides, and moving images in various formats.

About Frank Russell Hightower.

Frank Russell Hightower was born in Pittsburgh in 1925. A 1943 graduate of Oliver High School, he worked as a professional photographer for newspapers including the Urban Times, the New Pittsburgh Courier, and Manchester News. Additionally, Hightower ran a freelance photography studio that focused on portrait, wedding, and special event photography. In 1972, Hightower completed professional training in color printing and processing from Nord Photo Engineering, Inc. He also completed photographic seminars hosted by the Eastman Kodak Company. Hightower had two sons with his wife Bessi, Rodney and Frank Floyd. Frank Floyd followed in his father's footsteps, becoming a professional photographer. Frank Russell Hightower died in Pittsburgh in 2005.
