Biography
John R. Bickley was an Instructor of Modern Languages at the University of Pittsburgh in the mid twentieth century. He received his Doctorate of Philosophy from Pittsburgh in 1935, publishing his dissertation, entitled The French "roman pacifiste,",1916-1933 in the same year.
Scope and Content Notes
The travel diary documents J.R. Bickley's European travels in August of 1949. The diary provides brief descriptions of the sites, restaurants, and hotels Bickley visited in France, Spain, Switzerland, and Italy. The majority of the diary is in English, while a small portion is written in French.

Custodial History
This collection was located in the Darlington Memorial Library in the University's Cathedral of Learning until 2007 when it was moved to the ULS Archives Service Center for processing, storage, preservation and service. However, it remains in the custodianship of the ULS Special Collections Department.
