Description
Saint Paul’s Roman Catholic Cathedral was originally located on Grant Street and Fifth Avenue in downtown Pittsburgh (current location of Two Mellon Bank Center). The first installment of this church was dedicated in 1833. A fire destroyed the building on May 5, 1851, however it was replaced in 1855 with a larger cathedral, which included a tower that was later removed. In 1901 the congregation decided to relocate to the Oakland section of Pittsburgh (then Schenley Farms).
