Description
The 1889 Allegheny City Directory indicated that James Benney and James Benney Jr. shared an office at 543 Wood Street in Pittsburgh. James Benney (Senior) was listed as a civil engineer, while James Benney Jr. was listed as an iron broker and secretary of the Pittsburgh Electro Plating Company. Prior to 1889, little was known about the Benney Family, except that two men named Benney were librarians for the City of Allegheny public school system. James Benney III was the son of James and Ann Friend Benney and possibly the grandson of James W. Benney, the second librarian for the City of Allegheny public school system.
