  • Many diverse activities take place on the grassy area at the center of campus, like this concert during Spring Weekend. This flat, open area became the center of campus gradually. Beginning with the removal of the hill behind Woodland Hall in 1950, the next step in establishing this area came in 1953 with the completion of Braun, Falk, and Coolidge Halls. At the time, these new buildings represented the center of classrooms and faculty offices. The construction of the Jennie King Mellon Library and Eddy Danforth Eddy Theater, in 1973 and 1974 respectively, completed the boundaries for the quad.
