Description
Benedum Hall and its eight acres of land was acquired by the College in 1961 as a gift from the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation. The 23 room mansion belonged to oil millionaire Michael L. Benedum and was called "Greystone." It was built in 1911 in the grand Edwardian Classical style and included a solarium and two bowling lanes in the basement that could be covered and converted to a dance floor. The Foundation is named after the Benedum's only son, Claude, who died of pneumonia at 20 years old. Benedum Hall was used as a dormitory for juniors and seniors until it was sold to Greystone Associates, Inc. in 1985.
