Description
Portrait of Andrew W. Mellon. Mellon was an alumnus of the Western University of Pennsylvania, graduating in 1873. He went on to work in banking with his family and to serve as Secretary of the Treasury under Presidents Warren G. Harding, Calvin Coolidge, Herbert Hoover. He established the A. W. Mellon Charitable Trust in 1930. Mellon was also responsible for the creation of the National Gallery through the donation of his art collection. He also served as ambassador to the Court of St. James. Photograph stamped: Edmonston, Washington, D.C.
