Description
Henry John Heinz II (1909-1987), Chairman of the Board and grandson of the founder of the H.J. Heinz Company, took control of the H.J. Heinz Company in 1941 at the age of 33, making him one the youngest men in the United States to head a major corporation. H.J. Heinz II socialized with British royalty, swam the Bosporus River, toured the Soviet Union at age 22, married three times, and owned twelve homes in the United States, France, England and the Caribbean. In 1946 he announced the company’s first public stock offering in the company’s history. In 1979 he was knighted for his contributions to British-American relations. H.J. Heinz II, an athletic adventurer, is seen here skiing at Sun Valley in central Idaho. In 1987, after 56 years of service to the company, he died at the age of 78.
