Description
Caption on the back of the photograph reads, “A jar cap should be tight enough to resist contamination, yet loose enough so that ordinary wrist-power will open it. This piece of equipment in use at H.J. Heinz Company makes sure the jar cap is on just tight enough to keep the contents right and still keep the customer happy.” The H.J. Heinz Company pioneered quality assurance procedures. In 1918 the company began to apply scientific controls to assure quality in the laboratory and on the factory line.
