Description
H.J. Heinz Company owned and operated its own glass factory in Sharpsburg, Pennsylvania, that produced the finest bottles, hand-blown from molds, in a variety of shapes. Women, more than 1000 of them in 1902, in various departments at H.J. Heinz Company washed bottles (pictured here), cut up chickens, trimmed meat, stuffed olives, skinned tomatoes, peeled and stoned peaches, and performed other tasks. Food containers at Heinz were all sterilized, cleansed, scrubbed, scoured, and polished each time they were put into use.
