Description
During the 1964 flood of the Allegheny River, the H.J. Heinz Company main plant and the area around it was flooded. Floods remained an annual threat to the plant until the completion of the Kinzua flood control reservoirs on the upper Allegheny River in 1965. Floods caused the loss of production and millions of dollars over the years before flood control.
