Description
The two hundred H.J. Heinz Company draft horses deployed throughout the United States were primarily all jet black. Heinz demanded Percheron horses that fitted a certain conformity in weight, size, and type and were pure black with black points, the only exception being a modest white star on the forehead or a slight whitening at the feet. Percherons were originally from the region of France known as Perche. These horses were the only line of heavy horses not originally bred as draft horses. The horses first appeared more than 1,000 years ago and were a cross between Arabian Stallions and Flemish Plow Mares. Percherons were the favored horse among the armored knights of that period.
