Description
West Penn Power Company was created on March 1, 1916, through a merger and consolidation of 53 electric companies including Inter Borough Electric Company, Kittanning Electric Company, West Penn Lighting Company, West Penn Electric Company, West Penn Light and Power Company, Westmoreland Electric Company, Irwin Electric Light and Power Company, and Jeannette Electric Light Company. The Springdale station was located approximately 15 miles north east of Pittsburgh. During the 1936 Saint Patrick’s Day Flood, the plant was so severely affected it had to be shut down because 20 feet of water covered the generating room floor.
