Description
Fenestra's facility in West Elizabeth, Pennsylvania. Located in Allegheny County, West Elizabeth was incorporated as a borough on March 3, 1848. Boat building was the major industry of the town in its early years. Many river craft, including a considerable amount of steamboat hulls, were built there. Early in its history, West Elizabeth had a ferry landing, located in the lower end of the present town, which eventually became the wharf where steamboats landed during the period of packet activity. West Elizabeth’s population in 1850 was 328 people, in 1930 the population grew to 1074, and in 2000 the borough’s total population numbered 565 people.
