Caption on photograph reads, “Use of paper chromatography in identifying compounds which produce tastes and odors in drinking waters.” Mellon Institute, now part of Carnegie-Mellon University, is located in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh. Professional scientists working in fellowships carried out their research at Mellon Institute. The fellowships were supported by many large industrial organizations to solve problems that were affecting their industries.
