Description
Many structures were razed to make way for Mellon Square Park in downtown Pittsburgh. Among them were the old Davis Theater and the 40-year-old People's Gas Building (pictured here) at Sixth Street and William Penn Place. The 1.37-acre, $7.9 million park was completed in 1955. In the far left background is the newly built Alcoa Building.
