Description
The densely populated Hill District neighborhood of Pittsburgh with Bigelow Boulevard on the left and Bedford Avenue on the right. The large structure in the background is the Connelley Vocational High School. When Connelley opened in 1930 it was the largest vocational high school for boys in Pennsylvania, offering over eighteen trades. With the growth of the manufacturing industries in Pittsburgh, Connelley became the center for apprenticeships and cooperative training programs. Connelley trained numerous skilled craftsmen required for World War II and the Korean conflict. In 1992, Connelley Vocational High School received full accreditation and was subsequently renamed Connelley Technical Institute and Adult Education Center by the Pittsburgh School District.
