Description
Downtown Pittsburgh looking west toward the Point on May 18, 1950, the day of the ceremony marking the beginning of the construction of Point State Park. The first building that would be demolished was a small house, believed to be 103 years old, located to the front of the Chesters warehouse. The Allegheny Conference on Community Development brokered pollution-control program in the 1940s explicitly influenced the decision of the Equitable Life Assurance Society to invest in planning the Gateway Center project, which led to the development of Point State Park. The park was completed in 1974.
