Description
Gantry Electric Traveling Cranes serviced the 85-foot by 1200-foot metal storage area found outside of the Mesta Machine Company plant in West Homestead, Pennsylvania. The cranes carried pig iron and steel scraps from various developmental departments, including the Open-Hearth Steel Department and the Iron Foundry, to the store yard with electric magnets. The scraps from the store yard were transported by these electric traveling cranes and placed in charging boxes on small cars, which traveled to the charging floor of the Open-Hearth Furnace Department.
