Description
The Mesta Machine Company produced a number of engines, including the Single Tandem Gas Blowing Engine. Mesta was the first American manufacturer to arrange their air-cylinders or blowers in tandem, directly in back of the gas cylinders. This Mesta blowing engine, normally operated at a rate of 60 revolutions per minute and was known for its competence, especially under high temperatures. The engine is noted for having a thermal efficiency of about 29 percent and a mechanical efficiency of 85.5 percent. Two of these types of engines supplied the blast for a furnace, lowering the initial operations cost.
