Description
A Mesta Machine Company Double Helical Gear Planer in the Gear Cutting Department. This department was equipped with straight-spur, bevel, and double helical gear cutting machines, all built by Mesta, for machining the teeth in gears of all sizes up to 30 feet in diameter. Mesta designed, patented, and built unique gear planers which held the gear stationary while the teeth were being machined with all motion confined to the cutting tool. This was radically different then the method used by contemporary gear cutting machines of the time.
