Description
The Mesta Machine Company’s Foundry Department was one of the largest in the United States in the early part of the twentieth century and was equipped for the production of iron, steel, and bronze castings. The foundry itself consisted of three aisles with the main aisle at 80 feet wide and 1,200 feet long, and the other two on each side at 60 feet wide and extending the full length of the main aisle. The aisle to the right of the main aisle housed the Brass Foundry where all of the melting furnaces were located. The molding floor for small castings, core department, gear molding department, and drying ovens were located in the left aisle.
