Description
Cowley Elementary School, located on Sherman Avenue in Pittsburgh’s North Side neighborhood, was named in honor of Mary Junkin Cowley, a member of the first court-appointed Pittsburgh Board of Education, and President of the Playground and Vacation School Association of Allegheny County for 34 years. The school, erected in 1895, was remodeled in 1900. In 1973 Cowley School was closed and later razed.
