Description
John Burroughs Elementary School, located at 1 Spring Garden Avenue, was built in 1884. When the school was constructed, it was located in one of the outlying districts in Pittsburgh where both the teachers and pupils were interested in nature study. The school, then, was named for John Burroughs, a noted naturalist. The building closed in 1939 and was subsequently sold in 1943 to a private individual.
