Description
A group of female students are taking part in a physical education class at Beechwood School. Beechwood School was originally Beechview Elementary, which was named after local beech trees. Beechview Elementary, located at Fallowfield and Sebring Avenues, opened in 1908 as part of the Borough of West Liberty. In 1909 it became a part of the Pittsburgh public school system when West Liberty was annexed by the city. In 1922 architect Press C. Dowler was contracted to design a new school on Rockland Avenue near Sebring Avenue, which eventually became Beechwood Elementary. Beechwood Elementary School opened in 1924, replacing Beechview Elementary. Beechwood Elementary School serves students from the Beechview community of Pittsburgh.
