Description
Students enrolling in the Vocational Core Program at Connelley Vocational Technical High School were expected to have finished courses in industrial arts during junior high school grades, and reading, writing, arithmetic, history, and social studies classes in the tenth grade. Depending on their selected field of specialization, students at Connelley were encouraged to study algebra, geometry, and trigonometry. All students enrolled in the Vocational Core Curriculum at Connelley were required to take basic work in drafting, blueprint reading, and schematics. Many of the skilled occupations involved actual practical work experience in addition to apprenticeships. Connelley Vocational Technical High School offered a wide variety of courses including Welding Technology (pictured here). After completing this course, students were proficient in arc, tungsten inert gas, metal inert gas, plasma arc, and oxyacetylene welding that met the strict standards of private industry and the armed services.
