Description
The Weil Elementary School gymnasium was partitioned into three classes to better utilize the space for the Team Teaching Project. The Team Teaching Project consisted of three teaching teams that included the Primary Team, which was created for each of the first three grades of the five participating schools; the Intermediate Team, which was established for the fourth through the sixth grades, and covered language arts and social studies; and the Inter-School Team, which comprised two teams, one including intermediate grade teachers in arithmetic, and the other in science. The five Pittsburgh public school elementary schools selected for this project were Letsche, McKelvy, Vann, and Weil (pictured here). All schools were located in Pittsburgh’s Hill District neighborhood. The proposed outcomes of the project included an increase in the student performance in English, arithmetic, and social studies; the encouragement of a greater appreciation of education among the participating student’s parents; and the development of procedures that allowed for a more precise assessment of a student’s capabilities.
