Students from the Columbus Middle School visit with Rex Trailer on KDKA’s Marie Torre Show. Marie Torre (last row on the right) was a prominent Pittsburgh journalist whose work appeared in newspapers and on television. She died in 1997. Columbus Middle School was originally an elementary school located on Irwin Avenue in the City of Allegheny. The school was destroyed by fire in 1952 and the students were temporarily transferred to Oliver High School. A new Columbus Middle School was built in 1967 on Buena Vista Street in Pittsburgh’s North Side neighborhood.
