The Clifford B. Connelley Vocational High School, known in 2003 as the Connelley Technical Institute and Adult Education Center, was named in honor of former Pittsburgh Public School Board member Clifford B. Connelley. The school, designed by architect Edward B. Lee, opened in 1930 on Bedford Avenue near the old Central High School in Pittsburgh’s Hill District neighborhood. The school was considered one of the largest and most modern trade schools in the United States at the time. The school offered day and evening classes that included carpentry, plumbing, and automotive repair.
