Description
Taylor Allderdice High School is located at the corner of Shady Avenue and Forward Street in the Squirrel Hill section of Pittsburgh. In 2003 the school had an enrollment of approximately 1700 students, making it one of Pittsburgh’s largest urban high schools. The school building, erected in 1926, was named for Taylor Allderdice, a mill worker in Pittsburgh who rose to become the President of the National Tube Company from 1926 to 1928. When the Pittsburgh School Code of 1911 became official, he was appointed one of the charter members of the school board.
