Description
Madison Elementary School opened on Milwaukee and Orion Streets in 1902. Ulysses L. Peoples originally designed the building in 1890. He included monkeys and other animals in his architectural decorations. Architects Pringle & Robling designed an addition to the building in 1929. The school was originally the fifth school in the Minersville School District; it now serves the Schenley Heights, Schenley Farms, and the Upper Hill District neighborhood of Pittsburgh.
