  • This photo from the 1936 St. Patrick's Day Flood juxtaposes the flooded houses with the little bird house, safe high above the water level. Some of the homes in this picture are barely visible, because of the height of the water. Behind the homes are the railroad tracks that run through Oakmont, upon which people can be seen standing. Over 130 buildings were damaged in Oakmont alone.
