Description
Bert Fisher's House, pictured here, obviously suffered substantial damage from the 1936 flood. Nonetheless, Fisher was lucky, for his house would have been entirely destroyed had the sturdy tree line not stopped the floodwaters from sweeping his house away. The trees alongside the Allegheny River in Oakmont proved helpful in many instances during 1936. The flood caused damage to over 130 buildings in structures in the Oakmont area alone. Notice the amount of snow that still remains after the flood has abated. Originally from the Oakmont Centennial Book Collection.
