  • Members of the Japanese delegation arriving on a C-54 Skymaster transport aircraft, while other soldiers wait on airfield. The sixteen-man delegation arrived in Manila from Ie Shima, Japan on August 19, 1945. The delegation included Lt. General Torashiro Kawabe, Vice Chief of the Japanese Imperial Staff and was greeted by Major General Charles A. Willoughby. The surrender was announced on August 15 and the Official Instrument of Surrender was signed aboard the USS Missouri on September 2, 1945.
