Historical Note: The Special Program for Women at UPG was designed in the early 1970's and existed through the mid 1980's for adult women to resume their education. According to the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg Bulletin for 1976-78, ...Mature women who have diverse roles and responsibilities have different needs and interests from conventional college students, and through its flexibility, the Special Program for Women meets these needs in various ways. It is a program not in the curricular sense (that is, it is not an academic program of women's studies), but rather a plan with special policies to make education more readily available to a particular group.
The Program is special for a number of reasons: *No college board or other entrance exam required *Part-time or full-time schedules *Day or evening classes *Special advisor to counsel and register students *Credit for life experience through College-Level Examination Program through the School of General Studies.
