Description
The Heinz Memorial Chapel, dedicated in 1938, is located on the University of Pittsburgh campus next to the Cathedral of Learning. The chapel, a gift from Howard Heinz and his sons, was designed by architect Charles Z. Klauder. The main notable features on the inside of the building are the intricate stone and woodcarvings, and the stained glass windows. The 23 different stained glass windows were made by Pennsylvania artist Charles Connick and depict many famous figures from a variety of fields. They are among the tallest stained-glass creations in the world, 73 feet to the top of the stone tracery, including 68 feet of uninterrupted glass. The chapel is nondenominational and is often used for weddings.
