Description
The 24-story Farmers National Deposit Bank was designed by architects Alden and Harlow in 1903. It was located at the corner of Fifth Avenue and Wood Street in downtown Pittsburgh. The building was originally constructed of red brick and white terra cotta, during a period in which the replication of the baroque style was all the rage. During the mid-twentieth century the bank became the Farmers Bank Building and the headquarters of Mellon Bank. In the year 2000 the building was torn down and replaced by the Lazarus-Macy’s department store.
