Description
H.J. Heinz Company manufactured its own tin cans from a piece of flat tin at its Can Making Department located in the main plant in Pittsburgh’s North Side neighborhood. The process included stamping and corrugating the tops and bottoms, forming and seaming the bodies, and spinning on the bottoms of the cans without solder. In a few minutes the finished cans were distributed throughout the Heinz plant to be filled with baked beans, cooked spaghetti, cream soup, or other canned products.
