Description
A H.J. Heinz Company employee checks out using a time clock in the Time Office located at the main plant in Pittsburgh's North Side neighborhood. The portraits of presidents Abraham Lincoln and James A. Garfield, both of which were assassinated, hang on the wall. The motto in the stained glass window in the upper right background reads, ”Temperance and Labor are the two real physicians of man.” The Time Office was a twenty-five feet square, one-story high structure built with terra cotta Pompeian brick. The structure had three entrances, one used by the male employees, one used by the female employees, and the general public and visitors used the center passage.
