Description
During World War II part of the H.J. Heinz Company plant in Pittsburgh’s North Side neighborhood was converted into a facility for the production of glider wings. Precision work and exact assembly were essential in building these parts, which were then shipped to Troy, Ohio, where they would be assembled with other parts to create gliders, which participated in many of the major invasions and battles including D-Day in 1944.
