Caption on the back of the photograph reads, “Showing railroad tracks going down to level of water in river.” In early August of 1875, the new Edgar Thomson Works received its first order, 2000 steel rails. The Edgar Thomson Works, located on the banks of the Monongahela River in Braddock, Pennsylvania, was a model of efficiency.
