Description of the photograph reads, “UNIQUE IN THE WORLD ---- Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corporation, a member company of Allegheny Ludlum Industries, Inc., melts stainless and specialty steels in the hot blast cupola-basic oxygen converter complex in the foreground of this photo. Allegheny Ludlum is the only company in the world making stainless steel by this process -- maintaining its position as the world’s leading specialty steel producer. The plant in the foreground is at Natrona, Pa., one half mile up the Allegheny River from the firm’s huge Brackenridge Works 25 miles from downtown Pittsburgh, shown downriver in this photo. These Allegheny Ludlum plants have won public citations for their contributions to air and water environmental improvements.”
