Description
As rock was blasted and removed in each side of the Fort Pitt Tunnels twin tubes, walls and ceiling were lined with steel-ribbed supports. Spaced four feet apart, the eight-inch-wide supports were used to keep rock from falling before the tubes were concreted. Here, the tunnels are nearing final stages, an inside view looking towards the south portal shows the construction work in progress.
