Description
Gateway Towers, located at Gateway Center in downtown Pittsburgh, was the ninth and tallest building in the Gateway Center complex. The 27-story, $10 million tower was designed by the architectural firm of Emery Roth & Sons. Construction began in late 1962 and was completed in mid 1964. Gateway Towers marked another milestone in the Pittsburgh Renaissance, making it the city’s largest and most luxurious apartment building at the time and reflected the nation-wide trend to new executive-size apartment suites in downtown areas. The land on which the building was built was leased from the Equitable Life Assurance Society of the United States, which also financed the structure under a long-term mortgage.
