Description
The Mesta Machine Company utilized a large forge plant to produce heavy iron and steel machinery. The Forge Plant consisted of three departments, the first of which featured the use of hand forgers and steam hammers. The second and third departments were equipped with steam hydraulic forging presses, which utilized patented features developed by Mesta. The second department utilized two1500-ton presses, while the third department employed a 1000-ton and a 2000-ton press to forge ingots from the acid Open-Hearth Steel Department. The Forging Plant also utilized annealing and heat-treating furnaces and quenching tanks.
