Description
The Mesta Machine Company produced saws in sizes ranging from a 36-inch diameter blade with a 50-horsepower driving motor to much larger sizes required for cutting cold or hot material. These saws fell under type categories: the Swinging Frame Type and the Sliding Frame Type. The Swinging Frame Type Saw, which was carried in bearings mounted on a swinging frame, was used primarily in cutting small bars up to four inches in diameter. The Sliding Frame Type Saw was mounted on a horizontal sliding frame and was used for cutting objects above four inches in diameter. The Mesta Machine Company was one of the leading manufacturers of machine tool and steel mill equipment in the world during the first half of the twentieth century. Some of their other products included, gas and steam blowing engines for blast furnaces, forging presses, shears, cut and machine-molded gears, and various types of rolls used in rolling mills.
