Description
The Knox District was known as the Borough of South Pittsburgh prior to being annexed by the City of Pittsburgh in 1869. Knox was named in honor of Jeremiah Knox, a prominent resident in the district. Knox School was located on the corner of Manor Street and Brownsville Road in Pittsburgh’s South Side neighborhood, which was part of the 30th Ward. Knox School closed in 1938 and was razed in 1942.
