Taylor Allderdice High School is located at the corner of Shady Avenue and Forward Street in the Squirrel Hill section of Pittsburgh. One of Pittsburgh’s largest urban high schools, the school had an enrollment of approximately 1,700 pupils in 2003. The school was named in honor of Taylor Allderdice, a former member of the Board of Public Education. The building was completed in 1927 and occupied 207,000 square feet of floor space. The school also covers a full city block and has a playground that is about the same size as the school building itself. Taylor Allderdice serves the Pittsburgh communities of East Hills, Greenfield, Hays, Hazelwood, Lincoln Place, New Homestead, Park Place, Regent Square, Squirrel Hill, Swisshelm Park, and portions of Homewood and Point Breeze.
